Stratford is of course the birthplace of England's greatest poet and playwright, and the town remains an important market town in Warwickshire with regular markets on Fridays and Saturdays in Rother Street. Many of the fine old buildings that are characteristic of Elizabethan England still survive and the wide streets and tranquil River Avon still make Stratford-upon-Avon a delight to visit.
